Objective

The goal of this training is to enable participants to understand and apply the principles of the Data Management SPICE model to assess and improve data management processes. Participants learn how to prepare for and conduct assessments, identify process capability levels, and define targeted improvement measures to strengthen the organization's data governance, data quality, and data competence.

Upon completing the seminar, participants will be able to:

→ understand the structure and purpose of Data Management SPICE – including process categories, base practices, and capability levels
→ prepare process assessments to identify the strengths, weaknesses, and capability levels of existing data management activities
→ interpret assessment results and derive actionable improvement measures from them
→ build and optimize data management processes in areas such as data governance, data quality, and data flow
→ integrate Data Management SPICE with related frameworks (e.g., ISO/IEC 330xx, Automotive SPICE®, IT service management models)
→ foster a culture of continuous improvement in data management

Training Content

Data Management Process Group (MGD)

Building and steering systematic data management processes within the organization

MGD.1 – Data Management Scope and Business Case

Defining the purpose, scope, and rationale for data management within the organization. Developing a clear business case that connects data initiatives to organizational goals: stakeholder identification, justification of data investments, and building a governance foundation.

MGD.2 – Requirements for Data Management and Data Quality

Identifying, specifying, and maintaining requirements for data management and data quality. Methods for deriving measurable data requirements and quality criteria from business and regulatory needs.

MGD.3 – Data Management System and Data Flow

Defining and maintaining the technical concept and structure of the data management system: data sources, data flow, data stewardship, and ETL mechanisms (extract, transform, load). Emphasis on traceability and transparency across the entire data lifecycle.

Data Operations Process Group (DOP)

Operational use, integration, and continuous improvement of data

DOP.1 – Data Integration and Deployment

Managing the integration, deployment, and validation of data prior to operational use. Deployment strategies, validation of integrated data, and alignment with technical and business requirements for secure, seamless data transitions.

DOP.2 – Data Operation and Optimization

Managing operational data use: monitoring, maintaining, and continuously improving data quality in ongoing operations. Performance monitoring of the data management system and optimization measures.

Note for Competent Assessors: Existing Competent Assessors in Automotive SPICE® can use this training to extend their domain knowledge to data management.

Framework & Exam

→ Maximum of 12 participants per course
→ Passing the exam is a prerequisite for participating in the ECQA certification process
